Bristol is a city located in
southwest England, 120 miles
from London. Bristol is home to over 400,000 residents being the 8th
most populous city in the United
Kingdom.
The
port of Bristol was originally located in the
centre of the city. But later was relocated to Avonmouth on the Severn Estuary.
This seaport has given Bristol
a history of trading commodities, particularly tobacco. It is still the
headquarters of Imperial Tobacco Group.
Bristol is also
famous for its bridges, including the Bristol
Bridge and The Clifton Suspension
Bridge, an icon of the city of Bristol
designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Bristol is also well known for the events that are held there every year. Bristol holds the German
Christmas market and many art exhibitions annually. Bristol also has a reputation for innovation
throughout history. Some such innovations include: Nick Park’s Wallace and
Grommit; the drink Ribena which was created in Bristol’s National Fruit and
Cider Institute; and the manufacture of the wings of Airbus A380, the world’s
largest passenger plane, in nearby Filton.
Bristol is home to several
past and present famous residents. Including Sophie Anderton, model. Lee Evans,
comedian and Bansky, a world famous graffiti artist.
Neighbouring
towns include, Long Ashton (3.2 miles) and Kingswood
(3.8 miles).
