Hemel Hempstead is a town located to the East of England, in Hertfordshire. The town is approximately 25 miles north of London and has a population of around 90,000 people.

Hemel Hempstead is a new town. Perhaps most widely known for its ‘magic roundabout’, this unique roundabout allows traffic to flow in both directions. The town has been developed as a new town since World War II but is on the site of an ancient settlement. The town charter was granted by King Henry VIII in 1539 and there are still relics from the old town in evidence today, with a Roman Villa situated in Gadebridge Park.

The River Gade runs through the town, joining the Grand Union Canal, to the south of the town. This creates water attractions to the area and also supplies the water for the town.

Hemel Hempstead is also popular for shopping. The Marlowes Shopping Centre is home to many major stores and Jarman Park is another popular venue.

Apple’s original UK operations were in Hemel Hempstead and Amazon have a depot in the town.

Hemel Hempstead’s famous residents include Max Whitlock, who was part of Britain’s Gymnastic team at the London 2012 Olympics. Others include footballers Jordan Parkes and Tommy Smith.
