Essex is a
county located to the north east of London. The county is spread across a total
of 1420 square miles and has a population of over 1.7 million people.
Towns of
interest include Colchester and Saffron Walden. The administrative center is
Chelmsford.
Essex is
well known for popular TV show ‘The Only Way Is Essex’, starring Joey Essex who
featured in the 2013 ‘I’m a Celebrity’ TV series.
Essex is
also well known for its landmarks, with popular attractions such as Hendinghams
Castle, St. Johns Abbey’s Gate, Colchester Castle and St. Botolphs Priory.
Colchester Castle is a near-complete Norman castle and a Grade I listed
building.
Essex is
also home to cultural attractions including The Cater Museum, which show
objects from throughout Billericay’s history.
The
University of Essex is based in Colchester, with two further campuses in
Southend and Loughton
Essex is
home to many famous people including Olly Murs, who was born in Whitham and
spent his childhood attending both primary school; Howbridge Junior school and
secondary school; Notley high school in Essex. Other famous residents include;
Sally Gunnell (athlete), Ashley Banjo (dancer) and Kara Tointon (actress).
Essex
borders the counties of Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Kent, Greater London and
Cambridgeshire.
