is located in the west midlands of England,
approximately 130 miles from central London.
The county covers a total area of 672 square miles, with a population of
approximately 600,000 people.
AsWorcestershire is a rural county, it is well known for its vast countryside and
outdoor attractions. One of the most popular places to experience is the Malvern Hills, where trails afford spectacular views over
the county.
Music and theatre are popular in Malvern. The Malvern Theatres Complex overlooks Priory Park.
Housed in an Edwardian building, the complex is a popular cultural centre. The
theatre's West End style helps ensure
big-names in drama, ballet and opera play Malvern. The Forum Theatre has great acoustics
for musical performances.
Avoncroft
Museum of Historic Buildings is an open-air museum of rescued buildings. The
museum came about following the dismantling of a 15th-century timber-framed
house in Bromsgrove in 1962. The reassembled building is known as the
'Merchant's House' today.
Famous
residents of Worcestershire over the years include actor Mark Williams who
played Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter films. Others include Trudie Styler
(producer), Charles Dance (actor) and Robert Hamer (director).
The county
borders Herefordshire to the west, Shropshire to the north
west, a small part of Staffordshire to the North, the West Midlands to the north east, Warwickshire to the east
and Gloucestershire to the south. Worcester
is the only city in the county and has a cathedral on the banks of the River
Severn.
